PDF Document ID Viewer

Inspect a PDF's effective trailer ID and download original byte hex, lengths, equality or a bounded malformed-state reason.

How to use this tool

  • Choose PDF document: one valid unencrypted PDF.
  • Select Inspect document IDs. An absent effective ID, including a resolved null value, is reported absent; malformed shapes, references and oversized strings receive a reason without partial byte dumps.
  • Select Download result to save pdf-document-ids.json. The original PDF bytes are not resaved.

Examples

Two identical 16-byte ID strings produce present state, two 32-character lowercase hex values and equal: true. Equality does not prove document identity or integrity.

Limitations

  • One PDF up to 50 MiB, 500 pages and 100,000 objects. ID references are bounded at 64 steps; exactly two byte strings are required when present. Each string admits at most 4,096 encoded characters and 256 decoded bytes. Report at most 1 MiB; 30-second worker deadline.
  • The report reflects the parser's effective trailer, not a census of raw declarations or all incremental revisions. Literal escape and line-ending normalization, octal low eight bits, hexadecimal whitespace and odd-nibble padding follow PDF byte-string syntax.
  • Invalid or encrypted PDFs fail admission. Malformed IDs return no partial values. This does not validate signatures, uniqueness, integrity or content hashes, and does not generate or repair IDs.
