AVIF

Browser only

Runs locally in your browser. Your files, pasted content and generated output are not uploaded. Reset clears this tool’s working data.

How to use this tool

  • Choose one supported still image within the displayed limits.
  • Choose lossy or lossless encoding, quality, color detail and speed.
  • Choose Encode AVIF. The first run downloads and verifies the local engine. Cancel stops the worker.
  • Review dimensions and file-size change, then download. Reset clears the selected file and output.

Examples

Encode a transparent PNG for a smaller web image, comparing quality and output size.

Limitations

  • One still image up to 20 MiB, 4 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side; AVIF items up to 8 million total pixels. Output up to 32 MiB. Native memory is capped at 512 MiB and the download/worker deadline is 120 seconds.
  • Animated inputs are rejected. AVIF compression requires browser AVIF decoding and exports the primary image only.
  • Output is 8-bit sRGB with source orientation applied by the browser. Source EXIF, XMP, ICC profiles, HDR gain maps and auxiliary images are not copied. HDR inputs are converted by the browser.
  • Lossless mode preserves decoded pixels, not original compressed source bytes. Browser color conversion and alpha rounding may change source values. Alpha is always encoded losslessly.
  • Output may be larger than input. The result reports actual file sizes and percentage change. Slower encoding can reach the deadline on large images.
